The latest study from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) showed that global air freight markets reported growth in the month of September. Based on air freight tonnage, total volume improved by 1.0% versus September of 2014 which compares favorably with August when air freight totals were remained level.
Overall total air freight tonnage remains slightly down from the peak rate witnessed at the end of 2014, current data shows quite diverse results being reported within the different global regions. Once again the Middle East showed the healthiest growth and at last an upward bounce was seen in the European markets, meanwhile the North American market saw a small fall with the biggest decline seen in Latin America.
In North America the numbers revealed a 3% fall year-on-year whilst capacity was up by almost 5%. The encouraging underlying news was that September volume inched up by 0.8% compared with August, once again demonstrating that the economy is still showing favourable growth in real terms.
IATA's data is very significant for the industry in that it comprises analysis from more than 250 carriers who collectively represent almost 85% of global air traffic, the full study details can be found via this link to the IATA site.
